Cookie Exchange FAQ
For the exchange, plan to bring three dozen (36) of your favorite Christmas cookies. You can even mix it up and bring more than one kind of cookie!
You'll leave with the same number of cookies you came with! (More if you count the ones you decorate and eat during the event 😉). We’ll provide plates and plastic wrap, and each person will be able to take home a few of each kind of cookies. If you would like to bring them home in your own container, feel free to bring one along!
If you have food allergies, you're not alone! There will be allergy-friendly (gluten, dairy, and peanut free) cookies available to decorate during the exchange, and there will be a few allergy-friendly options available for the exchange.
Nope! The event is from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, but you can come and go anytime during that period.
For each kind of cookie you bring, please send an email to Pastor John so we can add it to the Elmwood Christmas Cookie Recipe Book! A Word document or recipe typed out in an email is the easiest format for us to work with. Please do not send pictures of a handwritten recipe since it will add significant administrative work on our end ☺️

Budgeting Workshop FAQ
Nope! This event is free to attend, and lunch will be provided by Thrivent Financial.
If you don't have a budget, this event is for you! The goal of the workshop is to give you the tools to create a healthy and sustainable budget, and to give you dedicated time to work on it. You don't need to have a budget in place to get something out of this event.
If you already have a budget in place, you know that it will need to change from time to time based on your season of life and other circumstances. We believe it's a great practice to look over your budget once per year and make corrections as needed. The Budgeting Workshop gives you the chance to do just that! Even if you've had a budget in place for a long time, you will benefit from a refresher on the basics, and from time to work on your budget in the moment.
To get the most out of the workshop, you'll want to do some work before you arrive. (This is especially true for those who are creating a budget for the first time.) It will be greatly beneficial to look at the last three months of your expenses to see what you spend in the following categories:
| Mortgage / Rent | Transportation | Clothing | Daycare |
| Medical / Dental | Property Taxes | Traveling / Vacation | Credit Card Debt |
| Household Repairs | Phone / Internet | Utilities | Car Loan / Insurance |
| Food | Entertainment | Insurance | Personal Allowance |
| Health / Gym | Student Loan Debt | Retirement / Investments | Savings |
| Tithing / Charitable Giving | Technology | Restaurants | Gas |
IMPORTANT NOTE: We know that gathering all this data for the first time can be intimidating and can feel like a huge undertaking! You don't need to know what you spend in each of these categories down to the cent. especially if you're creating a budget for the first time, just get a rough number.
No! Through their generosity program, Thrivent gives back to the community by resourcing workshops like this that increase financial literacy and generosity in people's lives. Don't worry, this won't be like the "short presentation" you signed up for at a resort one time 😜

If you have questions, please email Pastor John at john@elmwoodchurch.org. Feel free to shoot us a text message at (651) 661-5315.
This free event is open to the public, but requires an RSVP.
What should I wear?
When you arrive at Elmwood, you'll experience a casual environment. Some people wear jeans (including Pastor John 🤓), some wear T-shirts, some wear dresses, and some wear button-up shirts. No need to dress to the nines, unless you really want to!
We can wait to meet you!
